The city of Corsicana, TX, is located about 55 miles south of the Dallas – Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is an excellent base to explore the urban and natural attractions of the region in your 2022 Ford Escape. Whether you are planning a day trip with your family or a weekend escape with a group of friends, here are three nearby spots featuring the best views of the area and plenty of recreational opportunities for all types of visitors.

1. Reunion Tower

As one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city of Dallas and the entire state of Texas, Reunion Tower is a place that welcomes thousands of visitors each year from all around the world. Completed in 1978 and boasting a total height of over 560 feet, this observation tower offers fantastic views of the entire Dallas – Fort Worth Metropolitan Area.

Commonly known among locals as “The Ball”, this tower is part of a Hyatt Regency hotel complex and featured a revolving restaurant that was permanently closed in 2020. Nowadays, Reunion Tower offers an interactive digital experience showcasing the history of the city’s most famous landmarks, as well as numerous telescopes in the observation deck. Getting to Reunion Tower from downtown Corsicana takes about one hour by car via route I-45.

2. Purtis Creek State Park

If you are looking for an outdoor destination where you can spend some time away from the routine and take in some beautiful lakeside views, Purtis Creek State Park is always a great place to visit. A sprawling nature reserve offering excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, and boating, this state park is open year-round between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm.

Sitting along the shores of a 340-acre lake, Purtis Creek State Park offers photogenic landscapes of the small islands and surrounding nature of the area. Located a little under 45 miles northeast of the Corsicana city center, this nature reserve can be reached in less than one hour by car via route TX-31. Some of the amenities you can find here include BBQ grills, a public boat launch, picnic shelters, a fishing pier, and a campground.

3. Cedar Hill State Park

Known for offering some of the most beautiful sunsets in the area, Cedar Hill State Park is a popular weekend getaway among visitors from Dallas, Fort Worth, and other nearby cities. Covering over 1,800 acres, this public recreation area was established in 1982 and features scenic picnic areas along the shores of Joe Pool Lake. Driving here from downtown Corsicana takes about one hour by car via route US-287.
