Our city of Corsicana, TX in started as a tiny pioneer settlement and has grown into a vibrant city. We want to remember our history, and we have preserved many fascinating parts of our history. When you’re visiting our city, these are some of the best museums you’ll want to visit.
The Pearce Museum at Navarro College
This museum is located on the grounds of Navarro College, the largest college in our city. It has two major sections of history: one devoted to Western art and the other to the Civil War. The Western art section has grown from a small collection of 30 paintings and bronzes to a large, well-recognized collection. Each art object must tell a story, and they are all created by well-known Western artists.
The Civil War collection contains a treasure trove of more than 16,000 letters, diaries, and other memorabilia items from both sides of the war. It aims to provide a balanced view of the conflict, focusing on the trials and tribulations of individuals caught up in the conflict. The museum can be found at 3100 W Collin Street, Corsicana.
Pioneer Village & Lefty Frizzell Museum
The Pioneer Museum complex comprises an area of approximately eight city blocks and includes a basketball court, a swimming pool, a playground, a pavilion, and the museum itself. This museum is filled with original artifacts and memorabilia, carefully displayed to highlight the life and times of the early pioneers.
In addition, the complex houses a small museum dedicated to Lefty Frizzell, a famous Country Music singer and writer. Lefty was born in Corsicana and went on to achieve fame as one of the most influential vocal stylists of all time. You can trace his history from birth to stardom to his premature death in 1975. The Pioneer Museum is located at 912 W Park Avenue, Located in Jester Park, Corsicana.
Corsicana Field Aviation Heritage Foundation Museum
This museum is located near the Corsicana Municipal Airport. Despite its name, it isn’t dedicated solely to aviation history. The museum was founded in 1960 to collect, preserve, and protect valuable historical artifacts. The museum is divided into various sections that cover the Civil War, Native Americans, the Texas timber industry, prehistoric creatures, and the development of the railroad.
The museum specifically focuses on the area around Corsicana and helps to show how all these events have made our city what it is today. The museum is located at 9000 Navarro Road, Corsicana.
